Raul Fernandez is Vice Chairman and Owner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, a private partnership which owns the NBA’s Washington Wizards, the NHL’s Washington Capitals, the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the AFL’s Washington Valor and Baltimore Brigade, and owns and operates the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. Mr. Fernandez also serves as a special advisor to General Atlantic Partners, a growth equity firm with more than $8 billion under management. He previously served as Chairman and CEO for ObjectVideo, a leading developer of intelligent video surveillance software, which he recently sold to Alarm.com. Mr. Fernandez brings more than two decades of executive experience scaling innovative and rapidly growing technology companies.
Mr. Fernandez is well known in the technology industry and the Washington, DC area as the founder of Proxicom, which under his leadership evolved into a leading global provider of e-commerce solutions for Fortune 500 companies. Founded in 1991, he grew the company to over 2,000 consultants and $200 million in revenue before taking Proxicom public in 1999. He later sold the company to Dimension Data in a deal worth nearly $450 million. Mr. Fernandez has been profiled by The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Forbes, CNBC, The Industry Standard, The Washington Post, and CNN.
Mr. Fernandez, a native Washingtonian, is an active philanthropist in D.C. regional nonprofits, focusing his energy primarily on educational reform. In 2000 he co-founded Venture Philanthropy Partners (VPP), a philanthropic investment organization based in Washington, DC. Mr. Fernandez is also the Chairman of Fight for Children, and a board member of DC College Access Program (DC-CAP), the DC Public Education Fund, and the Fernandez Foundation.
Mr. Fernandez is an active technology investor in disruptive companies, including Undercover Colors, SyncThink, Radius Networks, Cloud9 eSports, Professional Fighters League (MMA), and Snap+Style Business, a mobile SaaS styling platform that empowers brands and their associates to engage customers using curation, personalization and conversion features that deliver proven results. He also serves on the board of Kate Spade & Company (formerly Liz Claiborne), AtSite Inc., a technology company that reduces risk and increases productivity in client facilities and real estate across North America, and Perfect Sense Digital, a company that drives innovations in web and mobile development for corporations worldwide.
Mr. Fernandez holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland.
